The 2003 AIPPI/APAA/LES KOREA Joint meeting took place on April 18, 2003.

The 11th joint seminar and networking meeting of AIPPI-KOREA, APAA-KOREA, and LES-KOREA was held at the Tower Hotel, Seoul on April 18th, 2003. The 45 members from three groups enjoyed a networking time to strengthen mutual ties between the members of the groups, as well as shared their common interest by having guest speakers' lectures and a workshop.

Beginning with introductions to three groups, AIPPI-KOREA, APAA-KOREA, LES-KOREA, the meeting provided the participants with two informative lectures presented by two guest speakers, M.D. Byung-Wook ROU of Gangnam Hospital and Prof. Ki-Joong SONG of Seoul National University.

In the first lecture, Dr. ROU spoke out 'Health care for professionals', focusing on major cancers. It was followed by Prof. SONG's informative lecture, 'The principle of Creating HANGUL (Korean Language)'. After the Reception and Dinner, the workshop for I. P. related associations led by Mr. Yoon-Bae KIM, President of the AIPPI-KOREA, was responsible for providing the introductions to International conference related to Intellectual Property in the end of the meeting.

The EXCO Meeting 2003 is relocated to Lucerne, Switzerland.

The AIPPI Bureau announced on Tuesday, April 15th, 2003 that the 2003 EXCO was determined to split from the AIPPI FORUM.

Therefore, the venue of the 2003 EXCO will be changed to Lucerne, Switzerland, and the 3rd AIPPI World Intellectual Property FORUM will take place, as planned, in Seoul, Korea.

This decision was dramatically made several days after the AIPPI Bureau officially expressed concerns on the possibility of a low attendance at the EXCO amid the spread of the current political uncertainty such as the war in Iraq, SARS in Asia, and the North Korean nuclear crisis.

The Korean organizing committee of the 2003 EXCO and FORUM basically agreed that the current political circumstance would exert much impact on the delegates' attendance.

In order not to have a clash with the AIPPI FORUM, the EXCO meeting 2003 will move to new date. The EXCO meeting, therefore, will now take place from October 24th to 28th.in Lucerne, Switzerland. The new venue, Lucerne, is one of the most beautiful places and it is easy to reach for international travelers (direct trains from Zurich Airport serve Lucerne every 30 minutes, the train ride takes 48 minutes).

Meanwhile, the FORUM will take place, as scheduled, in Seoul, Korea on October 10th - 12th, 2003, followed by industrial inspection tours. The FORUM is designed to provide an opportunity to find out the latest developments and share various opinions on the recent trends in the Intellectual Property Protection industry.

Despite all of the changes, it is still a great honor that the Korean National Group becomes the first Asian group that will host the historical AIPPI World Intellectual Property FORUM.

AIPPI KOREA plans a seminar, in conjunction with FICPI KOREA, to celebrate the 38th Invention Month in May 2003.

AIPPI-KOREA plans to host an academic seminar on Thursday, May 28th, 2003, at the auditorium of the Maekyung Building, Seoul. This seminar will be held in conjunction with FICPI KOREA, aiming at celebrating the 38th Invention Month.

The comprehensive program of the seminar is coordinated to provide an invaluable overview of the key aspects of intellectual property. Participants will not be limited to the members of AIPPI-KOREA. The topics presented at the seminar are also equally relevant to the general corporate managers. It is the hope that the seminar serves fostering the technological invention, and also works to promote the 3rd AIPPI World Intellectual Property FORUM.

* The seminar is supposed to cover three major topics as follows;

I Recent International trends on Intellectual Property Protection

II Traditional Culture under the new circumstance of Intellectual Property Protection

III Introduction to the 3rd AIPPI World Intellectual Property Forum
